New Year OMCAOakland Museum Lunar New Year Celebration
Sunday, February 17 from 12:00 – 4:30 pm

Treat the family and discover the diversity of Asian New Year traditions.

Ring in the Lunar New Year with a spectacular lion dance, and join in OMCA’s tradition of Japanese mochi pounding. Delight in a Malaysian 24 Seasons drum performance, Red Panda Acrobats with special artist the plate spinner, Martial Arts by the Ernie Reyes World Action Team, Chinese yo-yo demonstrations, tai chi and a brilliant display of Japanese Sogetsu Ikebana flower arrangements.

Other activities include: learning the viral dancehit “Gangnam Style”, illusions by The Magic of Jade, Balinese dancers, music by the Oakland Youth Orchestra String Quartet, a sing-a-long, making your own Tibetan prayer flags, crafting New Year “lucky money” red envelopes, making Vietnamese spring rolls, face painting by Chinese Opera artists, and mahjong. The celebration will close with a fiery dragon dance!
