Gilgal Wines for Passover

Gilgal Wines for PassoverLooking for the perfect Kosher wine for Passover? We asked our guys in our Wine and Spirits department, and they are recommending Gilgal this spring. Gilgal wines are produced in Gowan Heights, Israel’s wine country. This region boasts of such ideal growing conditions it can be compared to Bordeaux or Tuscany. Volcanic basaltic soil, suitable topography, and cool high-altitude climate make for delicious wines.

Gilgal wines are premium-quality, aged, varietal wines from Golan Heights Winery in Israel which are fruit-forward and expressive. Golan Heights Winery has played a significant role in developing and nurturing Israel’s current wine culture and has firmly placed Israel on the world wine map.

Chardonnay
The Gilgal Chardonnay presents lemon, melon and pineapple characters, intermixed with hints of tangerine, spice, and oak. With a medium body, this Chardonnay is flavorful and fresh.

This food-friendly wine goes wonderfully with seared sea bass with sage butter, baked boneless chicken thighs with preserved lemon, or a mushroom and brie white pizza.

Merlot
The Gilgal Merlot exhibits aromatic cherry and berry fruit characters, layered with notes of chocolate, orange zest, spice, and dried herbs. This full-bodied Merlot offers a satisfying concentration of flavor.

Give the wine a go with slow-cooked roast beef, grilled lamb burgers, or pan-roasted duck breast.

Cabernet Sauvignon
The Gilgal Cabernet Sauvignon displays appealing fruit characters of blackberry, plum, and raspberry, along with notes of black tea and cocoa, and hints of fresh herbs and French oak. With a full body and good flavor concentration, this wine is a classic expression of the variety.

Try pairing the wine with braised beef short ribs, herb-roasted lamb chops, or grilled Portobello mushrooms with garlic and butter.

Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot
The Gilgal Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot features aromatic red and black fruit characters, along with orange blossom and spice notes. This 50-50 blend of Cabernet and Merlot is medium-bodied, complex and flavorful.

This wine is an excellent choice with rotisserie chicken.
