Celebrating Bastille Day around the Bay Area

Celebrating Bastille Day around the Bay Area

This weekend is Bastille Day, and there are lots of ways to dip into French culture and cuisine this weekend to celebrate. Here are some of our top picks.

Restaurants
Make a reservation for lunch or dinner at one of these great French restaurants.
Rêve Bistro, Lafayette 960 Moraga Road, Lafayette; 925-385-0793
Two years ago, Paul and Laura Magu took over hallowed territory in Lafayette—the former home of Chevalier—and put their own bistro spin on the space. The French-trained Paul had cooked in some of San Francisco’s top restaurants before deciding he wanted his own kitchen.
Bar Crenn, San Francisco
3131  Fillmore St., San Francisco; 415-440-0460
Dying to try noted chef Dominique Crenn’s cooking but thinking her two-Michelin-star Atelier Crenn might be too spendy? Head to her trendy new wine bar next door. The vibe is just as elegant and the bites divine. We enjoyed the Alsatian flatbread with Comté cheese, fromage blanc and bacon and the rare pink scallop dressed with horseradish, lime and white sturgeon caviar. The pillowy brioche, with whipped beef-fat butter, is the same one served at Atelier. Read more here.
