If you are celebrating Juneteenth, the good news is a lot going on around the Bay that includes a variety of activities for the family. Events are taking place both this weekend and next.

Juneteenth History
Juneteenth (or Juneteenth National Independence Day) is a federal holiday

celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.

The day was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021 when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law. The holiday is considered the longest-running African-American holiday and has been called America’s second Independence Day.
