Oakland Art Murmur and First Friday Is October 5th

Oakland Art Murmur and First FridaysOn the first Friday of every month, Oakland Art Murmur (OAM) hosts an evening art walk featuring arts and mixed-use venues collectively open to the public.

OAM features free public walking tours, introducing hundreds of visitors to Oakland’s galleries and the artists they show while learning about topics like ceramics, drawing, textile approaches in art, starting a collection, street art in Oakland, and trends in contemporary art.

And the Oakland First Fridays Street Festival is a monthly community program taking place in downtown Oakland along Telegraph Avenue from West Grand Avenue to 27th Street. Up to 30,000 people visit the event each month celebrating art, music, and creativity, together on the streets of Oakland.

This month’s event highlight includes Julia Chigamba & The Chinyakare Ensemble, a family of musicians, dancers, and teachers committed to preserving and sharing traditional Zimbabwean culture, and promoting community building and education through music and dance. Chinyakare presents an electrifying performance of the traditional dance, music, and culture of Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, providing audiences with a glimpse of the beauty, excitement, and spirit of traditional African culture.
