Oakland First Friday: Oakland Proud

poster from Oakland First Friday: Oakland ProudWhere Oakland community & arts meet.
Oakland First Fridays is Oakland’s nonprofit signature monthly celebration of arts, culture, food, and community. I happens on the first Friday of the month and draws up to 30,000 people to celebrate our unique community. This month the theme is Oakland First Friday: Oakland Proud.

It is a free event open to people of all ages, the vendor fees are low in order to create opportunities and reduce barriers to entry for Oakland’s small businesses and artistic entrepreneurs. Monthly themes focus on the communities of Oakland including LGBTQ Pride, Black Love, Latin Pride, Youth, Women, and more.

And, on the first Friday of every month, Oakland Art Murmur hosts an evening art walk featuring arts and mixed-use venues collectively open to the public.

September is Oakland Pride Month
While our sister city across the Bay might get the national rep, Oakland hosts the third-highest rate of LGBTQ-headed families in America. You don’t have to be a member of the LGBTQ community to come out and celebrate the diversity within the city we call home, Oakland Cali-for-ni-a!
