Stout Floats

Stout FloatsAt first thought, beer and ice cream might not sound like a great idea.
But wait…give this one a try…. The rich, creaminess of stout goes surprisingly well with vanilla ice cream and Kalúha. It lends bitter overtones that balance the flavors. A little chocolate syrup on top and its a recipe for heaven.

This recipe serves a crowd. Perfect for a tailgate or a gathering of friends.

Stout Floats
Yields 6 floats

Ingredients
For the whipped cream
1 cup chilled heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the float
6 tablespoons Kahlúa
Vanilla ice cream (good-quality)
3 12-ounce bottles or 2 pints (about) of chilled Guinness Stout
Cocoa syrup

Best served with a straw and long-stemmed iced tea spoons.

Directions
Make the whipped cream
Using an electric mixer, beat the cream with the vanilla extract in a medium bowl until peaks form. Cover and chill. (Or just buy the squirt stuff in a can!)

Make the floats
Pour 1 tablespoon Kahlúa and 1 tablespoon cocoa syrup into each of six 10-ounce glasses.

And, place 1 scoop of ice cream in each glass.

Add the stout, pouring gently down the side of a tilted glass to prevent too much head from forming. Spoon (or squirt) a dollop of whipped cream into each glass.

Top with a drizzle of cocoa syrup, place spoon and straw in each, and serve immediately.
