The Emerald CocktailThe Emerald cocktail is a great way to escape green beer on St. Patrick’s Day. And we are celebrating all weekend!

Some quick research will show that there are not that many mixed drinks using Irish whiskey. Turns out that (like Scotch) Irish Whiskey just doesn’t go well with many other ingredients. However, this version of The Emerald is quite enjoyable. It’s smooth, mellow, and improves with the quality of the whiskey.

The Emerald
Yields one drink

2 ounces Irish whiskey
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass and fill with crushed ice. Stir well for 30 seconds and then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Garnish with orange or lemon peel.

Variation: use Angostura bitters in place of the orange bitters.
