2019 Berkeley Kite Festival

2019 Berkeley Kite FestivalThe Berkeley Kite Festival is one of the premier free family festivals on the West Coast. And, it’s happening this coming weekend! 

Enjoy kite-making and kite lessons, and a presentation by Sode-cho Kite-Flying Society of Hamamatsu, Japan, featuring centuries-old kite designs. There’s a Giant Creature Kite Expo, Rokkaku (Japanese fighter kites) Battle, team kite-flying; free kite lessons; free candy drop; and food and drink to purchase.

Live music includes Taiko drummers. And there is a kids zone with bounce houses, a petting zoo, pony rides, arts & crafts, and face painting.

You can purchase a kite at the festival from Highline Kites’ sales tent.

July 27th and 28th from 10 AM to 6 PM

Location
Cesar E. Chavez Park on the Berkeley Marina.

Cost
Admission to the festival is free.

Getting there
There is limited parking at the marina plus more available at Golden Gate Fields. Parking costs $15. A free shuttle will transport people from the parking areas to the festival. And, there is free valet bike parking.

Take the bus to the festival on AC Transit 51B, which serves Rockridge and Downtown Berkeley BART stations as well as West Berkeley. (Bus schedule here.)
