The Lion Dance Festival is a collaborative effort set against the vibrant backdrop of San Francisco Chinatown. The most common loin dancing is the Southern Lion, which originated in the Guangdong province in China and has existed for over 1,500 years. The Chinese Lions symbolize virtue, intelligence, wisdom, longevity, strength, and courage. Loin dancing uplifts and revitalizes SF’s Chinatown while offering this ancient art form to our community.
