Eats for the 2022 World Series

Photo of a baseball for Eats for the 2022 World SeriesThe 2022 World Series begins on Friday night, and for those of us getting ready to hunker down in front of the TV for some serious spectator sportsmanship, here are some great ideas to keep you snacking.

This year, the Phillies and the Astros are in the series. The Fall Classic is slated to run from Friday, Oct. 28th through Saturday, Nov. 5th (if all seven games are necessary). You can watch the games on MLB.TV.

But, what are we going to eat?
The first game is Friday night starting at 5 PM—so there is no time to make dinner! We recommend stopping by the store early and stocking up on some favorite treats.

Piedmont’s Own Dips
Piedmont Grocery has a great selection of fresh, house-made dips for you to enjoy with your favorite chips while watching the series. Grab a few different tubs for variety during the week. Some perennial favorites are Pappy’s Pimiento Cheese Spread, Our Fresh Bean Dip, Spinach Dip, Dill Dip, Taco Dip, and Blue Cheese Dressing and dip (great for chicken wings).

Grab some pre-cut veggies and a selection of chips from our wall of Kettle Brand Potato Chips.

Sausages
We have a fantastic selection of sausage to meet everyone’s taste. Throw some on the grill or even cook them up on the stovetop. A few of our favorites are Miller Hot Links and their all-beef links, Schwartzes Swiss Bockworst, or Octoberfest Bratwurst.

Buns
And, if you are looking for a bun for your sausage or burger, throw them on Pretzilla burger or sausage buns. They have exceptionally good flavor!

Fajitas
Did you know that we have all the fixings for chicken fajitas in our meat department? Just toss it in a pan with seasoning—you don’t need to do any chopping.

Pretzels
And, if you want a real Philadelphian snack, get some Snyder’s of Hanover Sourdough Hard Pretzels and eat them dipped in a mild seeded mustard like Edmond Fallot.

To drink
OK, classic Coca-Cola in its original flavor is perfect for the game. If you are looking for beer, how about Mirror Pond from Deschutes Brewery from Bend, Oregon—or perhaps a Heineken.

If you’re cooking
Over the weekend you might have a little more time in the kitchen. So, we have some menu suggestions specific to the two teams.

Texas Chili is a beefy stew with lots of chili peppers and no beans. That’s right. No beans. Check out this Poineer Woman’s recipe.

To honor the team from back East, you can skip the cheesesteak and go for its lesser-known but tastier cousin, the Philadelphia Roast Pork Sandwich. And, if you are feeling ambitious, try your hand at making the ubiquitous (in Philadelphia) soft pretzel (again served with mustard).

Whatever you decide to eat, enjoy the 2022 World Series this weekend!
