Long Island Iced Tea

Long Island Iced TeaA Long Island Iced Tea is delicious and refreshing on a summer’s day.  It might have the same amber hue as its namesake, but don’t be fooled! It has a much higher alcohol concentration than most highball drinks because there is relatively little mixer, in this case cola.

The original Long Island Iced Tea is said to have been invented in a community called Long Island in Tennessee (Not New York!) during Prohibition in the 1920s. It wasn’t until the 70s that the modern version using Coca Cola was created.

It is a refreshing drink for summer days, and will prevent scurvy if you are heading to the Northern California Pirate Festival this weekend.
